Laser tattoo removal works by using beams of laser light energy to target the tattoo’s colored pigment within the dermal tissue. The pigment absorbs the laser energy, causing it to eventually break down and “scatter.” Once this happens, the body absorbs the broken-down pigment, leaving behind clear, tattoo-free skin.

Laser tattoo works best on older tattoos that have darker inks, like a dark blue, black, and red pigment. Laser tattoo removal will also work on colored inks like yellow and green, but it may take more treatments to break down these particularly stubborn pigments.
