Laser tattoo removal uses laser energy to target tattoo ink pigments in the skin. These pigments have been placed deep into the dermis to make the tattoo permanent, and the pigments used are too large for the body to remove. The laser strikes the tattoo pigments and causes them to break apart. These smaller pieces can now be carried away by the body’s filtering systems, fading color from your tattoo with each treatment.
Because the laser targets pigments, dark colors like black and blue will fade first. Brighter colors like reds, greens, and yellows put up too much of a challenge for some lasers, but the Enlighten™ Laser can remove even these challenging pigments. In addition, an old tattoo will fade faster than a new one because the pigments have begun to fade and move closer to the surface over time.
You have several options for fixing a bad tattoo, and which one you choose will depend on what bothers you the most about your tattoo and your plans for after treatment.
If you want your tattoo gone completely, you may choose laser tattoo removal. This removes as much tattoo ink as possible, getting rid of that problem tattoo. The Enlighten™ Laser removes more tattoo ink than any other laser.
If you don’t love your tattoo anymore but want another, better tattoo in its place, consider tattoo fading. This will require fewer sessions and will fade your tattoo enough for a tattoo artist to create a new tattoo over it.
If your tattoo has a mistake or just one area you don’t like, you can opt for tattoo correction, which only treats the problem area of the tattoo. This may be the quickest way to deal with a bad tattoo if it only has one area you dislike.
You may see some redness and minor blistering of the skin for a few days after treatment, but you can resume all your normal activities. Make sure to keep the treated area away from sun exposure to help it heal.
Tattoo removal can take several sessions, especially for a brightly colored, large tattoo. However, we guarantee that we will provide all further sessions free of charge if your tattoo has not been removed after eight sessions.
